Jill is the founder and CEO of Your Life Design Inc., Prince Edward Island’s largest private virtual therapy clinic. Launched in 2019, YLD has over ten mental health therapists specializing in a variety of areas, in particular, working with people aged 4+, individuals, couples, and families. Many therapists have unique expertise in working with people with differing abilities and neurodiversity, issues faced by busy professionals, and caregivers.
YLD offers customized training reaching thousands of Islanders (leaders, professional helpers and caregivers) by providing tools and strategies for coping and resilience. There are a variety of professional trainers with backgrounds in mental health and leadership training.
Jill is a Registered Social Worker in Prince Edward Island. She holds Bachelor of Social Work (BSW University of Manitoba) and Master of Social Work (MSW Dalhousie University) degrees, in addition to certificates in Management and Adult Education. She has been a Registered Social Worker for more than 25 years. She has held a continuing faculty position in Human Services at Holland College since 2007. Prior to this, she worked with the provincial government of Prince Edward Island, for 10+ years in front-line, training/research, and provincial coordination roles in social programming.
Jill is enthusiastic, and enjoys helping others gain self-awareness, and reach optimal levels of personal well-being. In private practice, she provides services to busy professionals and caregivers. She is an engaging speaker, with positive energy. Throughout her career, she has given in-person workshops across Canada (New Brunswick, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and Northwest Territories), and has taught a course on inclusive education at Anyang Normal University in Anyang, China.
She is also the creator of Your Life Design’s signature program: Help4Helpers. She was inspired by her own work as a helper, as well as observing colleagues and former students working tirelessly to help others yet struggling to take care of themselves. She created this program to address burnout, moral distress, and compassion fatigue so prevalent with helping professionals. One of her latest projects includes the creation of a Care4Caregivers virtual program. Jill has helped hundreds of students become professional helpers during her work in post-secondary education for higher learning and provides ongoing workshops and training.
Empowering Voices: Addressing Coercive Control
Join Your Life Design Inc. (YLD), for an engaging session tailored for Direct Support Professionals. YLD is a Canadian company specializing in mental health counselling and behavioral support services for individuals with a specialization in working with people with Intellectual Disability (ID) and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), in addition to clinical supervision, case management, consulting, coaching, and training.
This workshop will explore the intersection of gender-based violence and people with Intellectual Disability (ID), focusing on the critical issue of coercive control.
In partnership with the Prince Edward Island Association for Community Living (PEI ACL), we will introduce a specialized workbook aimed at empowering women facing these challenges. Participants will learn about the workbook’s key components. We will share practical strategies to promote self-advocacy and emotional regulation.
By the end of the session, attendees will leave equipped with actionable skills to foster meaningful discussions and create safer, more supportive environments for women with Intellectual Disability (ID).
