Rachael Wallace

Breakout Description:

Allie Carroll – Program Supervisor, and Rachael Wallace – Program Coordinator, for the Healthy Relationships, Sexuality, and Autism Program with Autism Nova Scotia will be speaking on Sexual Readiness. Some topics may include what is considered having sex, why people have sex, things to consider before having sex, consent, understanding appropriate touch for your body, sex assigned at birth, gender identity, gender expression, attraction & sexual orientation. These are important topics to have awareness of when supporting clients through navigating healthy relationships and sexuality.

Growing up around disability, Rachael saw firsthand the importance of making the world more accessible and inclusive for folks with disabilities to participate in their communities, build meaningful relationships, and have access to equitable opportunities from a young age. She works from the social model of disability, with a strong focus on Social Role Valorization through a person-directed approach. She holds a B.A., & B.Ed. from Nipissing University, with additional qualifications in connection to supporting learners with disabilities from Queen’s University, and a Developmental Services Worker diploma from Centennial College. Rachael enjoys reframing people’s beliefs on what folks with disabilities can do.
